The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE!

Can you feel Fall in the air?

No? Yea, I know. Summer just began. Which means Nordstrom is forcing us to take stock of our FALL clothing needs. And OH DO THEY TEMPT US.

Nordstom is the devil... a fabulous, perfectly styled, devil...

I spent some time on the pre-sale website today. And no matter what season it is, sweater, boot and new jeans love is in the air.

#FashionFriday: Be a "Fit Fashionista" With Ellie

Moms across America have one thing in common; we spend a A LOT of time in our yoga pants. I'm not saying we are all going to yoga all the time, I'm just saying we wear them a lot. So you HAVE to look cute in them. A few years ago, Lululemon changed the designer workout wear trend into a full-on obsession. They made workout wear into something that was coveted, along with being very high-end and pricey. And, oddly enough, they seem to have monopolized this market for the past few years... with nothing else out there that really compares in style, fit and material.

Until Ellie

A new company out of Los Angeles, Ellie is poised to take on the yoga-wear powerhouse with great styles, high-quality moisture wicking and antibacterial fabrics that have 4-way stretch technology that will apparently never stretch out, so they will always hold you in and look good. Also? Everything is designed and manufactured right here in the USA.

Since they know that ordering workout wear online can be tricky, they've developed what they are calling "TruFit Technology" which means every piece fits true to size. Also cool? Each piece is designed by women, for women, so it’s made to flatter all body types.

When the team at Ellie asked me if I wanted to become an ambassador for their clothes, I jumped at the chance. Doing The Dailey Method 3-4 times a week means I'm either always washing workout clothes, or always buying them. I was excited to checkout new pants and see what they had to offer.

I have to say I love the pants I received. The Love Struck Leggings fit beautifully, are snug enough to hold everything in, but stretchy and OH SO COMFORTABLE. And I can't wait to try a few pieces from the March collection. Looking like it was MADE for me (all Black!!) I'm dying to get my hands on a pair of the Little Black Capris and the Black Widow tank top.

Check out the March Collection:

How it works:
There are two ways you can shop Ellie. First is by just going on the site and shopping away... the second is by joining Ellie as a FitFashionista Club Member, where for $49.95 a month you choose 2 pieces a month from the current collection. Yes, $50 for 2 pieces! And yes, you can always skip a month if you want.
And, if you use my links on this page, you can save 20% on your first order!

*disclosure: I am an Ambassador for Ellie. They have sent me clothes to review, opinions are my own.

So this totally happened: Lauren Conrad "liked" my outfit.

One of the regular columns over at Savvy Sassy Moms is "What I Wore Wednesday." This weekly post showcases us real life, savvy and stylish moms and what we are wearing on a weekly basis. For this week's column I sent in a picture of me in my new Free People sweater and a pair of boyfriend jeans. I thought the look was a good "run around" look and I'm currently loving my new, cozy sweater.

Chief SSM Andrea went about pinning some of the looks from the post, and I re-pinned my picture from that post. A few hours later I was procrastinating browsing Pinterest for some ideas for what to cook for dinner (ahem) and noticed that LAUREN CONRAD not only LIKED my pin of my outfit but COMMENTED "Love it!"

Lauren Conrad - one of THE stylish girls out there - Liked. My. Outfit.

While at first I thought it was fake, it does look to be legit.

And while I'm almost positive it was her social media girl doing the pinning ... I WILL TAKE IT.

Loving My: StyleMint Tops

A few years ago I had this great idea...what if there was something like a "t-shirt of the month club" that sent you a really cool, well cut, well made t-shirt monthly? I talked to a few people about it, everyone thought it could fly... then I don't know, kids, work, blogging, life got in the way and my little idea got pushed to the side. And then Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson apparently ran with it with one of their many ventures, StyleMint

Okay, so that's not true. Apparently BeachMint founders Josh Berman and Diego Berdakin are the dream thieves here!

Regardless, when I first saw this I cried a little. Then I ignored it. Then somehow I got an email with some tank top on it that I HAD. To. Have. And? It was a StyleMint top. I wavered for a few days, not wanting to give money to the people that took my idea (*disclaimer: they didn't really, I just tell myself that to make myself feel better for not running with my fab idea) but then a 30% promo code broke me down and I went for it.

And, while it PAINS me to admit this - I'm now in LOVE with StyleMint.

So how does it work?

From the StyleMint website:

  • It's FREE to look! Get a FREE StyleProfile. Never an obligation to buy!
  • Start your membership with your first purchase!
  • All styles start at $29.99 each!
  • You only receive what you order. We'll email you at the beginning of every month with your Showroom based on your StyleProfile.
  • Choose to buy or skip a month in the first 5 days at
    no charge!
  • Shipping is always FREE!
  • Returns are EASY!

So a lot of FREE and EASYs may lead you run away. But basically it's this, it's $30 a month for one credit. If you don't want to buy a credit that month, you need to go online by the 5th of the month and hit "skip this month" if not, your card gets charged $30. Most shirts are 1 credit.

When you first sign up they ask you a bunch of questions and then based on your answers your monthly "collections" are created. And while not all the shirts are a perfect match - it really only takes one a month, right? I joined about 4 months ago, and since then have purchased something 3 out of those 4 months. This month I even got a free t-shirt email offer to use when I spent my credit. All said, I now have 4 StyleMint t-shirts hanging in my closet and I can say with total affirmation that the shirts are nicely made, cute and fit very well.

My one complaint about the whole experience is that the models that they use on the website are ridiculous. They are all 6 ft tall, 90 lbs with not a boob in sight. Great for runway or couture fashion spreads, but not great for an online-only retailer trying to sell clothes to real women. And last time I checked, quite a few real women have boobs.

That said, this past month I took a chance on a plaid, button-down shirt. Now, button-downs I try on never really fit me right across the bust line, so I'm not sure what even possessed me to purchase this one. But I did, and I LOVE IT. It fits perfectly and it's a very light, thin cotton - perfect for Fall in Southern California.

What can I say? Sometimes it's the things you want to hate that you end up loving most.

Happy Shopping!

I bought a shirt off the back of a van, and I'll do it again. Mobile Shopping with It's a Luv Thing

Imagine having the cutest boutique in the universe 1 mile from your house.

Imagine what it would be like if one of your girlfriends owned this hot pink palace packed full of fun tops, comfy pants and locally made jewelry at affordable prices. It would be a dream. A dangerous dream.

When I first stumbled upon Kamie and It's a Luv Thing 6 years ago in Leucadia, I thought I had died and gone to shopping heaven. The cutest, sweetest woman owning and running a store packed full of everything I want to wear. Her store became my second closet.

When I was 5 months pregnant and needed a cute outfit to wear to Jason's birthday dinner, they styled me up in a Pucci-print maxi and red sandals. If I needed a top to wear on a girls night, a dress to wear to a baby shower, a present for my sister-in-law or just a new pair of the most perfect leggings ever, all I needed to do was hop down the street. As my dream turned into an addiction, I even traded social media/marketing services with her for clothes. At one point over half my closet was from Kamie's store.

Alas, one wakes up from dreams. I moved, she moved...but we never broke up completely.

The past few years have been rough on retail businesses of all sizes, but the smaller stores in my area have been hit hardest. High rents in coastal San Diego mixed with people pinching pennies have forced many businesses in my area to shut their doors. Also, the competition is stiff. National retailers such as H&M, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie have moved into the area - not only taking away dollars from locally owned stores, but also offering similar clothing at drasticly reduced sale prices. The small boutique, no matter how many loyal shoppers it has, has not been able to survive...without a little creativity, that is.

Kamie started her career as a Nordstrom buyer. From there she went on to build out the Juniors label at Rusty. She has an eye for trends and the best damn t-shirts you can find. She wasn't going to close up and walk away - she was going to take it with her. Enter the Luv Bus.

These days you can get a gourmet meal off the back of truck, so why not some great clothes? Kamie's Luv Bus is an bright red 1971 VW Bus with a custom hot pink fur interior - inside, it's stocked with adorable t-shirts, jeans, jewlery and dresses. She does local farmer's markets, street fairs, and pulls up in front of friends' spas and exercise studios. Having a fashion emergency? She's even been known to meet ladies to hand-deliver a new pair of skinnies or sparkly sweater. She carries favorite labels such as Gypsy '05, Wildfox and Chaser LA, and being that she's small and personal, she always has new clothes you can wear today - not when the season changes.

Growing up in LA, my mom always joked "You know its a good day when you spot Angelyne's pink corvette!" Honestly, these days that's how I feel when I spot Kamie's Luv Bus rounding a corner or stopped at a light. Walking out to pull the car around after Jason's knee surgery, Kamie just happened to be passing by; stopping momentarily to give me a hug and a chocolate kiss, she made my day.

So if you are driving through Encinitas and see her red bus - honk and wave. Celebrate the small businesses doing something unique. Celebrate those of us who are doing what they can to live their dreams. Or better yet - just stop and pick up a really cute top for dinner tonight.

Find out where Kamie is! Like her on Facebook, Follow her on Twitter, or shop online at: http://itsaluvthing.myshopify.com/
