It's my party...1 week out and things are getting SWEET

Mistake #1 : Asking for "regrets only" on the RSVP.

Reasoning behind is that NO ONE RSVPs anymore. So I thought it would make it easier - just let me know if you are coming. But some people RSVPed No, others said "Yes" others.. nothing. So.. Hmm. I have no clue how many people are coming. Somewhere between 10 - 40. LaLaLa

This week is all about putting things together. I've picked up some fun items like these plate, napkins, table cloths and pink plastic trays from Target...

I think they will go perfectly with my theme... as will these..

A gift from my mom! Thanks, Mommy!

My friend Carol sent me a link to pictures from a black and white wedding photo shoot that I'm so totally going to steal from:

I'm going to get some oreos, merengines, and attempt to make Bakerella's cake pops and macarons... Additionally I'm going to get some cupcakes (whheeee!) and maybe some other delish little desserts.

Wish me luck!

It's my party...

After a few years of planning parties for my Lucas, Zoe, for Jason's 40th last year, baby showers, etc.. I felt like I needed a night of my own. Alas, no one throws a party for the party planner.. But I ain't one to cry in my chardonnay.. I'll just throw myself a party!

Imagine - a party for me, by me... a night just like I want! I may even wear a Tiara. But first the planning. I wanted to do something more than plan a dinner at a restaurant this year. I wanted to invite whomever I want and have a good time and not worry about spilling a bill or spending too much. I also didn't want that group of people out standing there with the "what do you want to do next" issue.. some people wanting to go one way, others go the other. I just wanted it simple and easy for my friends to get together and us all to have fun. So I decided on a adult only party at our house - finger foods, drinks and dancing sans les enfants. I even booked a DJ to help set the tone and play some fab sounds.

I'm big on invites, and while I LOVE a nice printed invite, in the name of ease and saving a few bucks, I {GASP} emailed out my 2nd party invite of the year... but just because they are emailed doesn't mean they can't be cute!

I'm all about chandeliers and this invite is going to set the tone of my party - pink, girlie yet a little mature. I mean, I am turning 35... and I'm sure I will be doing a super girlie "princess party" later on in the year..

Keeping with the theme, I ordered a chandelier wall decal for the wall above my dessert table and a group of pink, hot pink and black paper poms to hang from the ceiling.

Seriously, how did people plan parties before Etsy?!

Next up on the decision block is plates and linens. Since it's mostly apps and desserts, I'm thinking I can use a paper plate... but a nice one... What do you think? Totally okay or totally tacky? And what type of plates? I'm going to be scanning various sites for ideas - if you see anything that I NEED to have, let me know!

Our network debut

Watch CBS News Videos Online

Short and Sweet. While they were with us for about 4 hours, they only ended up being able to use about 15 seconds. It was a wonderful experience, although my heart almost stopped when I saw they would be interviewing us in our lovely 1962-chic kitchen. GAH! The world now knows that I have PINK COUNTERTOPS.

Lucas was adorable. Zoe had Ben Tracy and the producer Erin wrapped around her little finger. Producer Erin actually also had the red hair/brown eye combo and at one point I was worried Zoe may call her mom.

(Lucas being interviewed by Ben Tracy at the YMCA skatepark)

All in all, the good news for us is that the bill passed. For us, it was very personal. This means that I will no longer have to wake up in the middle of the night panic over what we will do if Lucas breaks his arm or gets one of those strange Greys Anatomy/Private Practice diseases that kids get. No matter what you think of the politics of the situation, how can anyone say that people like my son don't have the right to proper health care?

If you were told you were going to be on national TV...

What would your first thought be?

******

I'll have more details later, but it looks like our little family will be telling our health care horror story to the CBS National News tomorrow. I've always said we have a great story and that we are a perfect "poster child" for health care reform, and I'm proud to be able to share what we deal with daily with a country so divided on what to do.

But I will admit.. my first thought was totally "What am I going to wear?!" followed very shortly by the thoughts of toys and crap all over the living room, how I really wish I had lost that 10 lbs by now and I hope my roots aren't too bad.

Vanity, you will be the death of me.
